Join Deep Street Soul in Europe
Ever been offered an opportunity of a lifetime,
but need some cash to make it happen?
Welcome to our Pozible campaign!
How we got here:
In 2010, we toured our debut album across Europe and the UK, playing headline shows at Cargo (London), Band on the Wall (Manchester), ‘St.Ex’ (Bordeaux), Tempo Club (Madrid), ‘The Yardbird’ (Birmingham) as well as shows in Getafe, Grenada, Bristol and Leeds.
We were blown away with how loyal our fans were and we headed back to Australia with plans to return the following year and showcase the new album.
Unfortunately the GFC had other plans, so the tour was shelved. In late 2012, Glastonbury Music Festival booker Malcolm Hayes caught our show at the Australian World Music Expo in Melbourne and invited the band to join the epic 2013 line up.
Why we're here:
So here we are, planning the tour, booking gigs, racking up the credit card debt. So far the dance card is looking pretty healthy with shows at Glastonbury, Saint Paul Soul Jazz Festival as well as club dates across the UK, Spain and France.
We've saved like crazy, and we're pretty close, but unfortunately, some gigs we were counting on for money fell through, and now we’re short.
We know what a special and unique breed you soul/funk aficionados are, and we’re appealing to your passion for the genre to make sure the exotic funk sounds from the antipodes can fly north for the European summer.
What we need from all our funk brothers and sisters is a little helping hand to make this all a reality by pledging your contributions. But we’ve made sure you get some decent value for your hard earned dollars.
In exchange for your pledges, we're ready to reward you by bringing you along for the ride, if not physically, at least in spirit, by including you in the DSS extended family as much as possible.
We've thought long and hard and devised a bunch of tasty treats to make your contributions worth your while and show our appreciation.

More info on Deep Street Soul:
At the forefront of the global funk & soul scene & hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Deep Street Soul specialise in delivering hard-hitting, gritty funk.
Formed in 2006 as an instrumental, Hammond led four piece, they honed their sound and craft on the burgeoning Melbourne scene by paying homage to their hero’s from the late 60’s- in particular the sounds of the Meters and Booker & the MG’s. A homemade recording went on to become the first of two sold out 45’s on local Jaycee’s label. These 7-inch’s were heard by the UK’s Freestyle Records and the band signed to the label in 2008.
The debut album Deep Street Soul was released in late 2009. It included a cover of the MC5 anthem ‘Kick Out The Jams’ featuring New York singer Tia Hunter. MC5 guitarist & songwriter Wayne Kramer dubbed the bands take of this classic the greatest version of the song ever recorded. The album itself generated press globally with stellar reviews from Europe and the US, and support from heavy weight DJ’s on the funk & soul scene.
The band followed up this LP with a European tour in 2010, playing shows across the UK, France and Spain including a live performance on Mark Lamarr’s (BBC2) seminal Friday night show ‘Gods Jukebox’.
After adding the dynamite vocals of ‘Mighty May’ Johnston to the lineup in late 2011, Deep Street Soul broke away from their instrumental stylings and released the highly anticipated second album Look Out, Watch Out , still on Freestyle Records. Again it received sensational reviews worldwide and big time radio play across Europe & the US. In hometown Australia the album was featured on numerous radio stations across the country.
The live shows saw the band expand their lineup once again, as the evolving sound called for the killer blows of a slamming horn section
Along with Japanese funksters Osaka Monaurail, Mountain Mocha Kilmanjarro and the US’s Will Sessions, Deep Street Soul safely sit among the pile as one of the heaviest & meanest bands currently plying their trade on the international funk scene. They have played alongside legends such as Marva Whitney & Charles Walker, headlined Russ Dewbury’s legendary ‘Jazz Rooms’ club night, and graced the stages of some of Australia’s largest festivals.
This summer they bring their super heavy show back to Europe with shows across the UK, France and Spain.
If you like your Hammond organ dirty, your diva funky, your rhythm section tight & your horn section schooled in the ways of the JB’s, catch Deep Street Soul.
Big thanks to all of you for coming onboard - this is gonna be a riot!
