The Parting Gift will be a 4-5 minute allegory, illustrating the Christian perspective on how God relentlessly pursues all of us with His love. The film will be used by Campus Crusade for Christ Australia to help start conversations about spirituality on university campuses.

The story follows a young man and woman who are deeply in love but when the woman leaves on a long journey without her love saying goodbye, she begins to fear he has given up on her, never realising he is fiercely pursuing her and only an arm’s reach away…

Campus Crusade for Christ Australia has over 500 people involved on 29 university campuses across the country through its university club, Student Life.

We plan to use this film through Student Life to see over 7,500 university students have the chance to ask questions about Christianity, some for the very first time.

Update - Can we raise $10,000 by the 23rd of May?

Thank you so much for your generous support!!! We have been absolutely amazed at the overwhelming response to our campaign.

Reaching our target amount of $5,000 in under 24 hours has encouraged us to put forward additional goals for what we'd like to do with more funding.

All funds from this point on will go toward making these goals a reality:
- Funding to develop an app for mobile devices so the film can be easily shared through Student Life: $5,000
- Hire additional film crew: $3,000
- Hire Post Production services: $2,500

If we can reach $10,000 by the 23rd of May we will be able to develop a mobile app for distributing the film easily through Student Life. We want to make "The Parting Gift" as easy as possible for our missionaries and student leaders to use as they start spiritual conversations and explain the good news of Jesus Christ.

With an app available across multiple platforms we'll be able to easily distribute the film, equip our missionaries and student leaders to use it, as well as track the results. The app will provide regular updates to everyone using the film about the results of the film's use. This feedback will link everyone together, help create a sense of unity, and encourage everyone toward a common goal.

Thank you for your continued support, and for helping make this project a reality!

Update: Making progress on the digital locations!

All the locations in "The Parting Gift" are being built in the computer using the 3D animation software "Blender".  Check out the progress on two of the locations so far:

Some Of My Previous Work

In 2012 Campus Crusade began Wonder Gate Films, an initiative to produce powerful films that illustrate Jesus and appeal to audiences who have little or no experience with Christianity.

Leading the Wonder Gate team is filmmaker Christopher Bailey. Chris studied film in the USA, and worked on several feature films before moving to Sydney, Australia where he worked as a television commercial director, VFX artist, and Motion Designer. He brings 10 years of filmmaking experience to the team. Chris has written the screenplay for "The Parting Gift" and will be directing the film as well.

Last year, we started using short film as a vehicle for starting spiritual conversations on Australian university campuses. We found that over four times as many people were interested in exploring Christianity after discussing an allegorical short film. In addition to that, we produced our first short film as a team, Lost in the Dark. This 9-minute short went on to receive 8 film festival nominations, including a nomination for Best Film.

Because of these milestones, we feel ready to take the next step and make a powerful short film specifically designed for starting spiritual conversations in Australia.

Previously Chris Bailey worked in Sydney making television commercials. Here are some samples of his visual effects centred work.

In addition, here is one of Chris's short films entitled "Psalm 1":

How The Funds Will Be Used

We need a minimum of $10,000 in order to make this project a reality. We’ve already raised $5,000 outside of Pozible, but we still need $5,000 more to reach our goal.

Here’s what the money will go to:

-Hiring local cast & crew: $7,600
-Providing food for our 15 member cast & crew for 3 days: $500
-Renting additional film equipment: $1,400
-Additional expenses (hard drives, tape, light bulbs): $500

Here are some of the things that are being donated:

-The salaries and expenses of the team at Campus Crusade for Christ Australia
-The green screen stage
-The essential film equipment
-VFX services
-Plus a whole lot more!

We want to be a supportive part of the local film industry in Melbourne, so it’s important that we hire local professionals and pay them an appropriate wage for their time instead of relying entirely on volunteers. None of the money raised for this film will go to the team at CCCA for payment of services.

What would we do with more money you ask? If we raise above our $5,000 target, here are our goals:

- Hire additional crew: $3,000
- Hire Post Production services: $2,500
- Develop an app for mobile devices so the film can be easily shared: $5,000

Help us get there!

The Challenges

Whenever visual effects are required to tell a story, a vast amount of work is necessary to achieve a look and feel that is immersive. Our biggest challenge lies in this aspect of the project, but we feel confident that we can achieve our goals.

Additionally, completing the film by the end of August this year will give us enough time to trial the film on campuses before launching it nationally in 2015. This deadline will be difficult to reach with our limited resources. Thankfully, the majority of the work is underway already. The virtual set pieces and animated elements are being created now. Our objective is to have them completed by the time we finish funding.
