In an effort to bring a bit of magic back to radio (except, you know, not actually on radio...) Nightlight Productions is embarking on a project to produce a multi-part comedy radio play set during the rule of the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt.
The finished product consists of four half-hour radio plays.
THE TRAILER
PHARAOH: WALKING IN MEMPHIS
Welcome to ancient Egypt, or to those who call it home... Egypt.
This is the land of the Pharaohs, and the cradle of a pretty damn impressive civilisation. Where a once noble ruler, the wise and noble Pharaoh Hatchoo, loved by all, has journeyed to the great beyond to take his place amongst the gods. He’s left the mortal world, and finds himself in a better place. He’s dead is the general point that I’m trying to get across here.
Which brings us to the mourning period. The land is silent in respect, and the new Pharaoh is yet to be crowned. The high priest of the temple of Ra has prayed to the sun, to convince it to rise for another day. And Serabi, third son of the deceased Pharaoh, has been given the task of building his father’s pyramid, which has fallen hopelessly behind schedule…
THE TALENT

XAVIER MICHELIDES as Serabi, third son of the late Pharaoh Hatchoo
Since winning the RAW comedy WA final in 2001 Xavier has been an active stand-up comedian, writer and performer.
He has performed in eight Melbourne International comedy festivals, three Melbourne Fringes, two Adelaide Fringes, two Perth Fringe Worlds, two Perth International Comedy Festivals and one Sydney Comedy Festival.
He has written for shows like ‘Good News Week’, ‘Rove’ and the award winning ‘Studio A’. He has also acted in TV shows like ‘You’re Skitting Me’ and ‘Prank Patrol’.

JIMMY JAMES EATON as Ptetanus, a slave
Based out of Melbourne, Jimmy James is an award winning rising star in Australian comedy and improvisation, holding the figurative medal for the quickest comic mind on the scene.
With a rapid fire of voices, characters, quips and booming man-made sound effects, Jimmy brings the funny thick and fast. His exceptional grasp on a broad range of performance skills allow him to create whole hilarious worlds on stage that you won’t want to leave.
Having performed extensively across Australia’s stand up scene, comedy festival circuit, as well as touring overseas to London and Edinburgh, Jimmy James is well on his way to becoming a household name. He has also presented for and appeared on ABC TV and Channel V.

BEN MCKENZIE as The Narrator
Ben McKenzie is a Melbourne-based actor, comedian, writer, feminist, improviser, voiceover artist, presenter, game mechanic, scientician, rogue nerd and ginger.
‘Geek comedy’s patron saint’ (T-Squat magazine), Ben writes and performs comedy science lectures as the Man in the Lab Coat (though he doesn’t usually wear the coat these days), co-hosts the hit live Doctor Who podcast
Splendid Chaps, and runs the monthly improvised
Dungeons & Dragons inspired comedy show
Dungeon Crawl.
It should come as no surprise that Ben loves games; he is co-founder of new games company Pop Up Playground, where his games include
Spy Catcher, The Curse,
The Whispering Society and
The Focal Point, and worked as Production Manager for the 2012 Freeplay Independent Games Festival. He has also appeared on the
Boxcutters television podcast as resident fact checker.
His favourite dinosaur is
Stegosaurus.

JESS HUTCHINSON as The Crone
Jess is a writer and actor. She is one of the stars of Channel 31's 'Fergus in Hell'.

MATT SMITH as Prince Hatchoo II and Anubis
Matt Smith (not that one) is a writer, voice actor and freelance journalist. As well as having an extensive back catalogue of radio plays to his name he's written a book, Land of the Dead, which will be released in late 2013.
The scripts are written, the talent is all ready to go into the studio, and production is ready. Assuming there's no schedule mishaps and post production goes smoothly there should be no issue with delivering the radio plays on schedule.
