Science Fiction for Science
Well, the official responded, China had recently sent science research delegations to the most innovative companies in the world. To Apple. To Microsoft. To Google. And they’d found one common bond between all the people there creating the future.
One common bond.
They’d read science fiction as children, just like I did.
Now, I didn’t become a scientist. But I did become a science fiction writer. One who still loves science and wants to give back to the science community. So when I watched a friend of mine present at the Royal Society of Victoria’s Young Scientist Research Prize Ceremony last year, I got thinking.
Supporting Australian Science

The Royal Society of Victoria has been promoting science in Australia since 1854: inspiring the next generation’s scientists, promoting greater investment in science education, offering free public lectures, and bringing scientists across disciplines together to learn and discuss new discoveries. It's also run by a lovely group of people passionate about science.

And it turns out they love science fiction. Which makes sense: science and science fiction have always had a mutually symbiotic relationship. In the same century that the Royal Society was founded, Jules Verne imagined today’s nuclear submarine in 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, while Star Trek not only shared the joy of space discovery and our shared humanity, it also predicted technology such as the smartphone and the tablet.
So in that same spirit, I’d like to ask you to join us in raising $4,000 for science and science fiction.

DISSOLUTION - WHAT WOULD YOU SELL YOURSELF FOR?
Madeline knows. She's spent the last eighteen years impatiently waiting for her Auctioning so she can sell herself to MERCE Solutions Limited for a hundred thousand credits. But when the Auctioneer fails to call her and two suits show up at her doorstep, Madeline discovers there are far worse bargains to be made.
So when your loved ones are in danger, there's a bounty on your head, and your entire city might turn out to be a lie... what would you sell yourself for?
"An action-packed cyberpunk thriller in the vein of Phillip K. Dick." - Kisa Whipkey, REUTS Publications
"Lee S. Hawke paints a vivid and sometimes terrifying dystopian picture of corporations ruling a city (and for all we know, the world)... The writing is crisp, the pace is fast, tensions are high, the descriptions vivid, and the characters crawl under your skin fast. There are quite a few twists that keeps things interesting and I cried at the end of the book. This author just got moved to my auto-buy list." - Allison B, Amazon Reviewer
