The Royal Society of Victoria has been promoting science in Australia since 1854: inspiring the next generation’s scientists, promoting greater investment in science education, offering free public lectures, and bringing scientists across disciplines together to learn and discuss new discoveries. And it turns out they love science fiction. Which makes sense: science and science fiction have always had a mutually symbiotic relationship. In the same century that the Royal Society was founded, Jules Verne imagined today’s nuclear submarine in 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, while Star Trek not only shared the joy of space discovery and our shared humanity, it also predicted technology such as the smartphone and the tablet.
