microLandscapes
Developed in Perth, microLandscapes, my first full length work, is about to debut at Melbourne’s amazing Next Wave Festival in May 2016.
What's the Next Wave Festival, I hear you ask?
Next Wave Festival is the most comprehensive platform in Australia for a new generation of artists taking creative risks. Next Wave produces a biennial festival which reflects a commitment to social and cultural diversity, environmental sustainability and inclusion.
microLandscapes’s relationship with Next Wave began with my admission into the Kickstart Program in 2015. Kickstart is Next Wave’s flagship development program. It’s money, time and space for young artists to develop ambitious projects and I was fortunate in 2015 to be a part of this program. It taught me a lot!

In the Studio: microLandscapes began as a project about a creative process. A process concerned with how varying artistic forms could be translated between one another, such as dance into text, text into sound or sound into video. This was a conversation I started with audio-visual artist Kynan Tan, whom I've known since studying at WAAPA together in 2009. However, throughout our creative development I discovered that the work was really about distance, time and their impact upon landscape.
Now the work has become an immersive multi-dimensional experience; a shifting landscape of movement, digital projection, sculpture and rippling sound that collapses, folds and expands around the audience. I wanted to create an environment for audiences to explore. To give a sense of a dynamic, shifting terrain, inviting the audience to investigate and contemplate their own relationship with and understanding of landscape. It was also very important to me to find the best viewing structure that would firstly enhance all aspects/mediums in the work, and secondly ignite a whole body experience of the performance.

I have an amazing team featuring Sydney artist Kynan Tan and dancers Niharika Senapati (Chunky Move) and Ella-Rose Trew (Co3), who perform a 50-min duet. The show is produced by national contemporary performance company Performing Lines WA in association with Next Wave and assistant producer Joseph O'Farrell. Without their support this project wouldn't have come as far as it has.
The support from Perth organisations throughout 2015 made this project a reality. Many thanks to Fremantle Arts Centre, Propel Youth Arts WA, The Department of Culture and the Arts WA and CIA Studios.

How The Funds Will Be Used
Due to the work’s technical nature and the interstate team we will be rehearsing in Melbourne for two weeks prior to the week of performances, so three weeks in total. This is a long time for couchsurfing and hiring projectors. SO, the funds from this campaign will go towards accommodation, hiring equipment and a portion of artist fees.
If you have the desire to donate, we can not thank you enough. And if you don't, we love you all the same and just appreciate you taking the time to read about our adventure! Thanks!
PLEASE NOTE: Your donation can be tax deductible. How great is that! BUT if you select tax deduction you can not then select a reward.
