Help Build Our Locomotive Cab
As technology improved and more modern designs of locomotive were introduced the V class started to be withdrawn in 1924. By January 1930 all 16 members had been scrapped. Sadly this means that an example of this much-loved class was never preserved. However, that is changing.
The Victorian Steam Locomotive Company was formed with the aim to build, from scratch, a Victorian Railways V Class. Numbered V499, after the class leader, it will fill a gap in railway preservation in Victoria and be used to operate on several of the tourist railways, and possibly the mainline railways too, across the state.
Over the past 18 months we have been restoring the tender frame and wheel sets for the tender. For those who are not familiar with railway terminology, a 'tender' is the part where the coal is carried (see photo above) and is found directly behind the locomotive cab.
We have been researching and making project drawings for many years and it is finally time to start to build the frst component - the locomotive cab.

To realise this we need to raise $7,000Au, which will cover the cost of construction and delivery of the entire cab unit to our project base. We are aiming at having the unit constructed by April 2016 and with your help we can achieve this milestone goal.
How The Funds Will Be Used
The estimated time period of the build is 1-2 weeks once the steel has been delivered to the fabrication company.

The Challenges

If we do not raise the $7,000 needed to build the cab it will certainly push the time of the build back a fair way. This will in turn delay other plans and goals that we have for 2016, so it is vital that we raise the money needed to complete this first brand new component.
Plate Steel
By pledging $25 you will have a warm fuzzy feeling that you are contributing to a very unique project and when the cab is built and delivered to us you will be invited to come and see it, stand in it and be included into the group photograph that will be taken of all supporters who have contributed to raising the needed funds to build the cab unit
Live Steam
By pledging $50 you will given the same reward as the $25 pledge, as well as a Limited Edition print of V499. These prints are limited to 250 copies only and are numbered accordingly.
Compound Cylinder
By pledging $100 you will be given the same reward as the $50 pledge, as well as a 1 year membership (valued at $49.95) to the V499 Project. This membership will also give you the opportunity to come and volunteer on the build throughout the year.
Engine Driver
By pledging $250 you will be given the same rewards as the $100 pledge, as well as a beautiful ceramic coffee mug with a water colour painting of V499 on it. This water colour was painted by renowned British artist Jonathan Clay, who has painted many locomotives for other new build projects around the world.
Project Leader
By pledging $500 you will be given the same rewards as the $250 pledge as well as a 30inch Black and White print of the original V499, taken in 1903. As well as this, you will get to see the finished cab before anyone else will be allowed to see it. You will also be highlighted as a major supporter of the cab and have your photograph taken with the VSLC team when the cab is completed.
