RICEBALLS is a heartwarming story about love, pride and resilience.
この映画 RICEBALLS は、親子の愛と誇り、そして強さを描いた心温まる物語です。
Since the passing of his Australian wife, Kenji has been doing his best to bring up his only son, Josh. While he is in two minds whether to move back to Japan with Josh, Kenji starts making clumsy Japanese riceballs for his son, with the hope he will remain connected to his cultural heritage. Eventually, those riceballs strengthen their bond and help them overcome the pain of losing their loved one.
オーストラリア人の妻を病気で亡くしたあと、無我夢中で一人息子のジョシュを育てている健二。日本に帰るべきかと迷いながら、不器用な彼はジョシュのために、来る日も来る日も思いを込めて、おにぎりを作る。妻を、そして母を亡くした二人の心の痛手を、やがてそのおにぎりが癒し、結びつけてゆく。
This film depicts a father’s hope and the challenges he faces whilst passing down traditions to his son who is growing up between two cultures. This is a ubiquitous theme and we are certain this story will connect with many people regardless of their cultural background.
二つの文化の狭間で育つ我が子に、なんとか母国の文化を伝えたいという親の願いや葛藤は、日本人のみならず、世界各地の多くの人々が共感するテーマだと、我々は確信しています。

How The Funds Will Be Used
Our goal is to raise $6,000 on Pozible. Combined with $3,500 funding and in-kind sponsorship this money will be put to use in hiring equipment, purchasing costumes and props. After the shoot, it will also pay for the services of professional editing, colour grading and marketing to international film festivals.

The Challenges
Just being independent filmmakers in Australia can be a huge challenge, of course. While our budget is very limited, we must work around the availability for the location and equipment. However, we are ready to take on that challenge! We are confident in our story and our passion will overcome all the challenges we meet.
