We're trying to raise around $5,000 for our FABULOUS project, thanks for taking the time to learn more  . . . .  .

Sisters and Brothers NT (S&BNT) is launching its new resource series at the Alice Springs Pride Carnivale on July 31st. As part of the launch we will be holding a plenary session, at which key members of S&BNT will talk about diversity in the Northern Territory.

We are seeking to raise funds for flights and travel costs for the Aboriginal LGTBIQ sistergirl brotherboy cultural mentors who now live interstate. We also are fundraising for the printing and language translation of these resources. We have a strong commitment to printing these resources in local Aboriginal languages - such as Arrernte, Warlpiri and Pitjantjatjara.

Sisters & Brothers NT is an advocacy and support group that celebrates gender, intersex and sexuality diversity. Our aim is to create a society where diversity is respected and understood across cultures. By providing a safe space for Sistergirls, Brotherboys, Indigenous and non-Indigenous LGBTIQ people to come together, we can develop a stronger community, create social change and address issues of racism, sexism, homophobia and gender inequality.

30% of the population of the NT are Indigenous, and very few resources produced interstate to date have reflected Indigenous stories and identities. We wanted resources that reflect the real diversity in the NT, with Northern Territory personalities. We have a really unique cross-cultural movement within the LGTBIQ sistergirl brotherboy community in the NT and we want to celebrate that.

Our latest resources continue to build upon the increasing visibility of the LGBTIQ sistergirl brotherboy communities in the NT. We have produced a new set of posters including a new sistergirl and brotherboy poster which is relevant nationally, and are working on a 20 page brochure on sexual bodily and gender diversity in the NT.

We have strong participation from the NT intersex community and our next round of posters will feature intersex advocate Georgie Yovanovic. She will be advocating to stop unnecessary medical intervention on intersex youth without consent.

Here are some resources that we produced last year.

Note this sistergirl and brotherboy poster was made specifically for Central Australia and is culturally appropriate for our region. Lore and culture is different across the nations of Australia.

Our major partners in developing these resources are NTAHC (Northern Territory Aids and Hepatitis Council) and the Alice Springs Women's Shelter.

Thankyou so much for supporting us.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The funds will be used for flights and travel costs for 3 key S&BNT representatives to come to present at the launch. Any further funds raised will be used for printing, translating and design of our new poster series, which includes 3 posters and one 20 page booklet.

The travel expenses for three people were more expensive than previously thought to transport people from Darwin, Sydney and Melbourne to Alice Springs. Alice Springs is a remote location where flights are very expensive. Here's the updated costs-:

BUDGET
Flights & travel expenses, accommodation for 3-4 people from Sydney/Melbourne to Alice Springs
Darwin to Alice.  Springs return flights = $730
Melbourne to Alice Springs return flights = $772.50
Sydney to Alice Springs return flights = $700
Peter accommodation and other travel costs= $400
Total= $2602.50

Any extra funds made will be used to -:
translate, print and distribution of these resources in English and at least three Aboriginal languages.

We hope to recoup some of the travel costs at the forum we're hosting so that more of the funds raised can be allocated to translations, printing and distribution of the resources.

The Challenges

Alice Springs, although a famous city, is incredibly remote and really expensive to fly into. Flights from Melbourne or Sydney cost $600-800 return. We just booked some flights on our credit cards to keep the costs down.
One of the reasons why we have to fly in Sisters & Brothers NT advocates is due to the fact it's really difficult to access pathways to medically transition in the Northern Territory. This has forced some Sistergirls to move to larger urban cities to access services that can support their transition. Services that are more easily accessible in urban environments simply don't yet exist in the NT. We are campaigning for change but there is a totally failure within the NT health services to provide the health care needs for transgender and gender diverse people living in the NT.
