Steve Lane And The Autocrats have been invited to showcase at Canada's biggest music conference/festival... Canadian Music Week!
Music Industry people from all over the world will congregate in Toronto for 10 days in May 2015, to network all things music and check out an amazing array of international artists and that of course includes us!
We've got our passports, our instruments and our music all sorted... we just need a little help to get there!
As with many international Showcase opportunities (like SXSW) emerging performers do not get a performance fee to with travel or accommodation costs.
Why go then?
Everyone knows that its hard to cover costs, let alone make a living from playing and recording music these days. We are keen to have access to a larger market to keep us going.
Over the years we have had many industry people suggest that Canada would be a great second home for the Autocrats. We feel the time is right to test the waters!
Just getting an official invitation from the mountain of bands/artists who apply world-wide is a great start.
Also... our great mate Asho from Footstomp Music is a keynote speaker and will be able to represent us on the ground during Canadian Music Week.
In addition to showcasing, we will be able to attend CMW's Music Summit, where we will have an opportunity to meet major international music people face-to-face and learn from the experts. We will also have access to mentoring sessions, songwriting listening sessions, keynote speakers and celebrity interviews.

STEVE LANE & THE AUTOCRATS introduced themselves with aplomb in 2011 with their debut album "The Romance Of Communication” (ABC Music/Universal) which was short listed for the Australian Music Prize as well as scoring the coveted album of the week on ABC DIG Music.
STEVE LANE & THE AUTOCRATS were featured on The Wiggles tribute album alongside the likes of Sarah Blasko, The Living End and Spiderbait.
The original lineup included Augie March’s respected rhythm section (Edmondo Ammendola & David Williams) and Dalriada guitarist Pete Slater.
‘If more music was this unfussy yet smart (not to mention well-read and funny), we would all have easier lives. Central Victorian Steve Lane doesn’t do anything new here; he just does it well. There are moments of ‘70s rock, twangin’ instrumentals and open-hearted ballads that sit somewhere between the Go-Betweens and Tim Freedman. This is music for a Sunday afternoon at the pub with some snags and a few good mates”.

Sophomore album “Birds Taking Flight” was released in 2013. Album single ‘Thirteen’ shone brightly, receiving overwhelming praise and interest by media and punters alike.
Rolling Stone’s Darren Levin says that “Birds Taking Flight is a bunch of mates writing tightly honed songs with their blinkers on… Lane’s heart is in the right place when he pays tribute to Pakistani activist Malala Youssafzai on Thirteen’’.
And here’s what publican Ben Quinn of the famed musical mecca ‘The Junkyard’ had to say…
Victorian rockers Steve Lane and the Autocrats played their one and only gig here a couple of years ago (or maybe longer - it's all a bit hazy) and blew all the right minds. Quincy's old china plate Vid rates it one of the best gigs he's seen here. Quincy nods, licks his lips. One for fans of Wilco, Pavement, Elvis Costello and the Attractions and other stylists of hook-laden rock'n'roll.

We are asking for $5000 to help us out with travel and accommodation costs.

$912 - travel insurance
$1200 - 10 day accommodation (4 people)
