Tim and Ben are the most unlikely friends. Just look at them!
They’re the ultimate Odd Couple. And they’re hilarious.
Tim and Ben met on the reality show Big Brother! Tim won the series, and vowed the day after winning that he would spend some of his prize money making his best friend’s biggest dream come true – to visit the home of his childhood idol, Elvis Presley’s Graceland. This December he's making good on his promise, and we want to raise money to go with them and film it so we can put it on YouTube - we can all go along.
Since Tim said he wanted to take Ben to Graceland, the trip has become even more meaningful. Ben struggles with depression. Tim calls his friend every day to make sure he’s OK. Sometimes he’s not. Tim wants to make good on his promise, and show Ben (who’s become a bit of a hermit) that getting out and having a stab at making your dreams come true can help fight the demons in your head.
Meanwhile, Ben thinks his friend could use a reality check, get his head out of the clouds. He’d also like to Tim to see how inspirational the life of Elvis Presley was.
We are super inspired by this unlikely friendship and the simple power of one person caring about another! We also find Ben and Tim one of the funniest double acts we’ve ever seen.
Why does Ben want to go to Graceland? In his own words.
“I identify with the way that Elvis wanted to take care of his mum, so Graceland was this place where his mum decorated and they lived together. They grew up very poor like my own family, so his success enabled him to provide a better life for his family. I'd see the giant music notes on the gates. I want to pay my respects to The King.”
The Graceland Happiness Project will be hilarious! But it will also be inspiring. We want people to share it, and share the message that caring about a friend can change their life. We’re hoping Ben will find some happiness, and that Tim will find some extra grace at Graceland.
