The Cumbia Cosmonauts project was born after my last big trip to Mexico.  I returned to Australia hugely inspired to dedicate myself to Cumbia.  Now I’m in a dream situation with crews in Mexico City, Tijuana and Monterrey all super keen to have the Cumbia Cosmonauts play in their home town.  

I am touring on my own for two months, and have been offered places to stay, play and record all over the country.  But it costs a fortune to get there. That’s where I need your help.  This trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take the Cumbia Cosmonauts project to where it all started, and connect with artists I’ve been communicating with for six years, have collaborated with, but never met in person.

In Tijuana, I’m reconnecting with members of Nortec Collective who originally inspired my quest to combine roots culture with a futurist vision, and hoping to meet the new generation of exciting producers including Los Macuanos, Maria y Jose and Le Rodriguez.  In Mexico City, I’ll meet the Sonidero Project, Frikstailers, Sonido San Francisco, Sonido Satanas, Kumbia Queers and the Prince of Tribal sound Alan Rosales.  Whatever Baile (Sonidero street party) is happening whilst I’m in D.F. – I’ll be there.  In Monterrey, Randy Salazar Jr. is set to show me what makes Monterrey one of the world’s capital cities of Cumbia, and I’ll be dropping by to see “The Rebel of the Accordion” Celso Pina, and his band Ronda Bogota.

I'll also be performing in Ensenada, Metepec, Tultitlan, Cuernavaca, Oaxaca, Veracruz and San Cristobal de las Casas, plus visiting many places in between.

I'm asking for $3000 to help towards covering return flights to Mexico City, and flights within Mexico.

As I am being generously hosted by the Cumbia & Tropical Bass community all over Mexico, my accommodation and food costs are covered.

The total cost of touring Mexico is $6400:
$2200 - return flights to Mexico City
$1050 - flights within Mexico
$600 - long distance bus trips within Mexico
$550 - travel insurance
$2000 - Melbourne rent & bills
