Within the last year, I have made the transition to work as a full-time artist as I wanted to be part of an industry that I believe holds its own in modern social and environmental commentary. Earlier this year was my first exhibition, WILD, held at No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne. The exhibition featured a collection of animal drawings, and it was surprising to me that the two smallest participants seemed to have the biggest impact; the BEES. I wanted to include these little guys as I was aware of the issues facing their decline and to acknowledge the important role they play in the environment. What I didn’t expect was that the conversations they sparked would compel me look deeper into the issue and start working out how I could help.

Why the BEE Project?

Bee pollination accounts for around ONE THIRD of the world’s crop production, this includes foods and beverages that we consume. However, due to factors like habitat loss and alteration and the deadly Varroa Destructor Mite, bee populations around the world are collapsing.

What is the BEE Project?

I’ve designed a collection of artworks to celebrate the friendly, hard-working honeybee and to promote awareness around the issue, before we have an irreversible problem on our hands. The BEE project is about showing people that by making relatively small and simple efforts we can, as a community, have a meaningful and positive impact. My hope is that these drawings and prints will find their way into your art collections and become part of ongoing conversations about how to look after our bees.

I’ve developed an online gallery to display the collection of original artworks and prints. In addition, this website provides some simple tips and also acts as a gateway to relevant resources.

You can explore the BEE Project website via the link below:

This will be an ongoing online presence and commitment. A portion of all sales for the ongoing project will be passed on to The Xerces Society, a nonprofit organisation that protects wildlife through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitat. Their research has a great impact on the longevity and effectiveness of pollinators worldwide.

FUNDED!!

Wow, thanks so much for all the support for the project over the last month. It has been a truly humbling experience seeing how many of you have shared and backed the BEE Project, I very much appreciate it, and I'm sure the BEES do to!!

However, there are still many great rewards on offer, and the more funding raised = more support for the bees :) Let's keep the party going,

Thanks!!!

How The Funds Will Be Used

Why a Pozible campaign? This project is a first step in my developing career as an artist where I want to continually showcase our environment and the reasons that should inspire us to protect it. A successful Pozible campaign means that I can continue to work on projects that help to inspire positive change.

An approximate breakdown of how these funds will be used is below;

BEE Project
-  Primarily Supporting the ongoing work of The Xerces Society

Extended funding will help support a second exhibition booked for 2015

-  Subject/research photography $250
-  Travel & transportation of artworks back to Melbourne for exhibition $1,200
-  Gallery space deposit $1,300
-  Art supplies $500
-  Promotional materials $250

Overall target - $4000

Any funds raised beyond my $4,000 target will allow me to continue towards my third exhibition, which I have concepts and ideas brewing.  All future projects are tied with a common thread, to help showcase our world and inspire positive change to protect it.  If you have any questions about future projects, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks so much!!

Pledges of $5 have my personal thanks for their support for my future projects, as well as The Xerces Society's continuing work. Thanks!!
