I run a unique blog called Capital Yarns. Social media users are invited to nominate three items, and I then write a bespoke short story featuring all three items, set in Canberra. The idea began when I made up bedtime stories for my two daughters based on three items nominated by them. I started the blog earlier this year, and have published one story on average each week.

More than 30 stories have been written on my site however I generally keep them online for around six months. This is to drive interest in a printed publication, and due to space constraints on my web server. I have received feedback from people that they like the stories, however would prefer to read them in book format, rather than on a computer or tablet. I have also received requests from people suggesting a book would make a nice present. I would like to create a book that is also a visual representation of Canberra: its past, present and future. The sort of book that won't look out of place on coffee table, complete with some wonderful photography of Canberra.

I would love your help in producing the first edition of Capital Yarns, the book. Here is a sample of how it will look. The below photo was sourced via Twitter from Drew Sheldrick, who was kind enough to let me use it online.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The aim of this project is to share my stories with a wider audience.  I'm not seeking to make a profit, I just want to cover the production costs of a small print run of around 200 books, featuring 10-15 of my best yarns.  This money will cover:
* Australian postage
* Printing
* Some graphic design costs
* Potential photo licencing (I hope to use friends for this)
* Pozible costs
* Barcode
* ISBN
* Adobe licencing (for two months)
* Bubble wrap

The Challenges

I have discussed laying out the publication with a graphic design friend, and sourced quotes for all the costs. The yarns are also written.

The main challenges will be finding perfect images to accompany the yarns, particularly to give the book a 'coffee table' feel. I have already approached a number of local phogographers to discuss this.

The cost of sourcing such images will be the next challenge, but I'm confident the above budget will cover this.
