Con Kalamaras Rebetika album
In short i need to raise funds to press my CD ...
Over the last six years I have immersed myself in Rebetika Music- An obsession that has taken me on an amazing musical journey into the heartland of Greece and the amazing Music history . Bringing me full circle to where i began musically.
This project will allow me to provide a musical snap shot of my passion for this music and a physical copy of a unique collection of works from this era in Greek music.
The aim of this project is to release a collection of Rebetika songs on to CD to share to the world!!...
This music speaks to me in ways I cant fully describe, I have been blessed to play with many amazing brilliant musicians, who not only have have shared their passion for this music, but have also become life long friends. These friends have been an inspiration to me - Rebetika has become a part of me, and, to me, is a very inclusive form of music - where audience and performers are both active participants. This project would be a snap shot of my journey so far and a collection of songs that have resonated with me.

Background information...
What is Rebetika Music??
In 1923 Greece was faced with the resettlement of over 1.5 million Greek refugees from Asia Minor. As a result of this, shanty towns grew up around Athens, Piraeus and other cities. These refugees brought their music with them, and this had the most pronounced effect on the urban music of Greece.
Rebetika has always been the music of the poor and the dispossessed, combining the different styles of the region with lyrics describing the joy, the sorrow, the difficulties of everyday life. It is often called the Greek blues, since like the blues, it grew out of a specific urban subculture and reflected the harsh realities of an oppressed subculture's lifestyle: poverty, alienation, crime, drink, drugs prostitution, and violence. But Rebetika's subject matter also extends to other subjects: romance and passion, social matters, people (such as the mother and other family), death, the difficulties of living in a foreign country, army life, war, trivial matters of everyday life, exotic places, poverty, labor, illnesses, and the minor sorrows of people.
What will the outcome be??
This project will allow me to realise my dream to press and release a collection of my favorite Rebetika songs, to distribute my recordings to a broader audience and also share my passion for this amazing history. If successful i will have a CD with booklet with a collection of songs from this era.
