Second Hand is the latest award-winning short film script by long time collaborators, Ashleigh Hanley and Benjamin O'Donnell. More than just a boy-meets-girl story, the audience witnesses a day in the life of Harvey Thomas (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor - Puberty Blues, Underbelly); venturing into the world with him after too much time spent away. For Harvey, the journey is intimidating, surprising and exciting all at the same time. It isn't until Harvey meets the magnetic, vivacious Tessa Denning (Sophie Hensser - Love Child, Tricky Business) that he truly finds the courage to live again.
From the outset, it was very important to cast actors who, through their respective bodies of work, showed versatility and an ability to fully immerse themselves in their characters. With Jeremy and Sophie, this project has struck gold. Not only do they really believe in the story, but they are also open to collaboration. And, of course, the camera loves them.
This script is in very good hands - and expectations are high. As an award winning screenwriter, Ashleigh Hanley's strength lies in creating very real characters and presenting believability on screen. As a 2014 Flickerfest and St Kilda FF finalist, Ben O'Donnell knows what it takes to create something that resonates with an audience long after the credits have rolled. Together - as creative partnership Wendy, Honey, and along with Producer Tanya Andrews, the team have etched out an impressive resume across film, television, corporates and commercials... and yet they've never been as excited about anything else as much as Second Hand.

How The Funds Will Be Used
After personal contributions, private donations and some of Australia's most experienced crew members donating their time and equipment, we will need another $4,500 to fully realise Second Hand and make it the absolute best it can be.
It is very important this film looks (and sounds) a million dollars - but at a fraction of that price. That's where you come in. You few, you happy....ok, ok .. you saw the video.
So, here are a handful of crucial departments we still need to fund in order to bring this great script to life:
WARDROBE
As talented as our two leads are, to help them fully embody their characters we need to have them dressed and fitted out with all the accoutrements necessary for this transformation to happen.
LOCATIONS
There are five main locations across Sydney's Inner West and Eastern Suburbs. Council permits, public liability and location fees don't come cheap - and we certainly don't want to be cutting corners.....or running from rangers.
CONSUMABLES
A well-fed crew is a happy crew - and, to get the best out of everyone who are devoting their valuable time, we don't want to scrimp on sustenance.
POST PRODUCTION
We plan on carrying the same high level of production value across all facets of post production, from edit through to the online process. Come colour grading time, our intention is to really push the boundaries of aesthetic creativity.
To say any more would be giving too much away.
The Challenges
We are a team of professionals in this industry - we know what you're thinking and yes, we could - without a doubt - go out and film this project on our own.
However, today Australia sits firmly on the world stage of filmmaking, and in order to take our place on that same stage we need to raise our production values accordingly - and, as such, our Pozible funds.
Short Films often suffer due to (amongst many things) :
* Limited shooting time - so we are giving the project 3 full days to craft the emotions and character arcs that need to be developed
* Basic equipment to record the images - we will be shooting with a full ARRI Alexa kit, lenses, sound mixer and relevant grip equipment, all generously contibuted by our faithful crew
* Student / Friends & Family as actors (not that this hasn't proved a surprising path to discovery in the past!) - Second Hand and the committment of its team to produce something to an international level has attracted the equivalent quality of acting talent in Jeremy and Sophie.
Filmmaking in general is a challenging pasttime. From the careful choice of locations to the subtle treatment of the material in order to maintain authenticity in the relationships; and our production and creative team fully appreciate the enormity of making a film that matters - and one that will be a serious contender come festival time.
