Save The Substation Gallery!

Opening exhibition for The Substation Gallery (1990)
One of our most important and versatile spaces is The Substation Gallery. Apart from the visual arts, our gallery has hosted all kinds of events, ranging from music concerts, to performance art, to film installations. Since its earliest days, The gallery has borne witness to milestone performances such as 'Journey of a Yellow Man' by Cultural Medallion recipient Lee Wen, and continues to present work by the next generation of contemporary artists who are eager to push the boundaries of art making.

One of the first performances of 'Journey of a Yellow Man' by Lee Wen in Singapore. (1993)

'Hall of Mirrors' by Bruce Quek (2011). The work was later recommissioned by the Singapore Art Museum.

'Performing Coloniality' by Kin Chui (2013)
Due to the huge range of art events that have taken place in our gallery, the space is continually pushed to its physical limits. While our technical team works hard to keep the gallery in the best possible condition, the space is badly in need of a major overhaul.

As a non-profit organisation, The Substation has a very lean building maintenance budget. In order to renovate The Substation Gallery, we need YOUR help, so that this space can continue to support emerging Singapore artists, and do its part to help develop the Singapore arts scene.
Out of the SGD$30,000 that we will need to renovate the gallery, we hope to raise at least SGD$4,500 through this crowdfunding campaign. We aim to raise the majority of the funds through a fundraising exhibition at The Substation Gallery, where Singapore artists have donated over 40 artworks towards this cause. If you would like to have a look at the works for sale for the fundraising exhibition, visit www.substation.org/septfest.
We've worked with some of Singapore's most well-known artists to come up with some very special rewards for supporters of this campaign. Visit our rewards page for full details, or our website for more information on each of the rewards.
