Franky Fingers a Short Film
The film is a gritty futuristic science-fiction story about Franky, a brute, who's trying to escape the confines of the concrete jungle, and his violent history. However his employers have other plans for him.
Franky is a simpleton, a lost soul amongst a harsh urban landscape. His only solace is found in the peace of the outback, but even out there, those who wish to use his vicious talents for personal and monetary gain find him and bring him right back into a world he’s tried to leave behind.
Franky Fingers & The Apartment Upstairs is based on the short story of the same name written by Leigh Miller. The film aims to build on the world and the characters of the short story and bring it all to life on the big screen.
The script is complete, storyboards are all but finished, we have a great experienced cast locked in who will breath life into the words on the page, and a highly talented crew who are eager to continue growing their talents and create something amazing.
(See below for bios on the cast & crew)
Franky Fingers also has a Facebook Page which already has lots of pre-production material on it and will continue to grow through production with photos and videos from the shoot itself and lots of updates during post production so you can follow the process of making a science fiction short film!
How The Funds Will Be Used
Now we need the funding to bring this richly imagined world to life; from grotesque characters to intricate set designs, the use of make up, prosthetics and creating believable futuristic costumes. Props and set design will need to be employed to fulfil the potential of the story of Franky Fingers.
The team involved want to give the film everything they have, but will need funding to make it a reality. Any small donations will help not only bring the world to life, but also capture it faithfully to the concept.
The funds will be divided into the main departments of a film shoot, including Production Design, which is things like the set dressing and the prop building, Costumes, Hair & Makeup, Camera & Lighting department and Catering for cast and crew. As well as into Post Production, things like colour grading, visual effects and film festival submissions so we can have a polished film that gets shown on the big screen.
The Challenges
The biggest challenge we face for this project is not being able to reach our projected budget, combined through the Pozible campaign and our personal commitment.
We have ambitious intentions for Franky Fingers, and want to do the best by the project to achieve them. We will see the project through to the end and give it the best we have, but we need your help. Any small contribution that can be made will be greatly appreciated and help to take this film to the next level.
In Franky's world, a highly urbanised overgrown population and a lack of morals have pushed everyone to the edge of what's humane. Some people crack, others go numb, while the highest of society profit.
Creating a world from scratch requires talent, time and money. Working with our Production Designer Josie, we've begun designing and creating the world that Franky will inhabit. Some of the set pieces and props will be sourced, others will be created from scratch to help create a unique world.
Unique and appropriate props will be created, the weird and the gross. The world is a combination of our current society, where urban developers don't get reined in, and their morals are just as distorted as the world we're creating.
Mood boards and production documents have been created which will act as a bible for the director and crew to refer too.
*Two example pages from a 10 page document.
Creating storyboards helps visualise a story, this allows the director to communicate clearly with the Cinematographer, Production Designer and other key creatives to help bring the vision to life. It gives an opportunity for the film makers to almost shoot the film before it's been shot. Without giving away too much, here are some samples of storyboards. These illustrations were used to create the animatic in the video above as a mood piece.
Apart from having the satisfaction of helping us create this film we have some great rewards, from a simple thank-you in the credits, to a signed poster and even props used in the film to keep as memorabilia.
For the more generous there's some great perks, invitation to the cast and crew screening, credits as an Executive Producer, or if you're a company we will display your logo in the credits and/or credit you as an Executive Producer. In the event we go over our target those funds will be used to create a more realistic world around the film, further developing the sound mix, the score for the film, colour grading and visual effects that can enhance the world of Franky Fingers.
Any amount of donation is appreciated, and if you're unable to donate, throwing our Facebook Page a like and spreading the word will help us out a lot!
The satisfaction of helping us out!
