WHO am I?
My name is Eileen Chai, from Singapore.
I was a national athlete in Gymnastics, Athletics and Springboard Diving, and now, a teacher and a violinist.
I started gymnastics when I was four, represented Singapore at seven, began my training in China at nine, won my first gold medal overseas at 10. My dream was to take part in the Olympics.
WHY the project?
Like you and me, we go through different discovery phases of our lives. We put in the commitment and dedication, and we persevere through difficult and challenging times to reach our hopes and dreams. And, there are inspiring lessons to be learned through that journey.
I went through the challenging life journey with some help from my mom, dad and family. I can feel the pain and joy when I hear life stories shared by people from all walks of life. Our first step is not to succeed, but to be prepared to fall; and, recognise our mistakes, embrace the next step to make it good or even better.
WHAT are the products?
The lessons learned will be shared through the story of my life, in the form of a book and a song. The title of the book is "Teach a Life, for Life", while the song is "Enjoy the Ride". Both items will be launched in June 2014. (no longer end of May 2014)
The original song which you hear in the video, is Live Looped on my Violin, with my Vocals (work in progress). My music genre is described as Downtempo with Trip hop and Celtic elements, set against an Ethereal atmosphere, laced with soft violin soundscapes and breathy vocals. The song, Enjoy The Ride, is about being mindful of our existence and enjoying that moment.
Biography
My very early career accomplishments were in the sporting field. A recipient of the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award and Singapore Olympic Academy Roll of Honour, I was a national athlete in three sports – Gymnastics, Track & Field (Hurdles) and Diving (Spring Board): the youngest athlete to have participated in the Southeast Asia Games at 7; a gold medalist at the Asia Pacific Diving Championship at 15; and a former national record holder in the 100m Hurdles at 27.
Since my elite sporting days, I had been a Sports Coach (IAAF), Educator (MOE) and Mentor, International Technical Official (FINA), Technical Official (FIG), Sports Performance Manager, and Venue and Events Operations Manager. I have experience in sports sponsorship, marketing and communication.
I have teaching qualification from the Ministry of Education having taught Physical Education and Music in schools, and have been performing on the acoustic and electric violin since 2003.
I'm fortunate to be able to utilize my wide-ranging skills across different work settings. Drawing on my experience in sports, music and performing arts, I now teach the violin and inspire my students though life lessons, and perform original live looping songs on my violin, with vocals.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The funds pledged will be used to publish the book and produce the song.
To publish the book, the funds are needed for editorial work, illustration of cover, book formatting, printing, binding, distribution and promotion which include the book website. To produce the song, the funds are needed for recording, editing, mixing and mastering.

The Challenges
Detailed planning was done to ensure completion of the project. I am confident that both the book publication and song production will be finished on schedule. My risk would be insufficient funding for the project. Hence, my challenge would be to reach out and engage all of you to pledge for this project, so that we can together, Teach a Life, for Life.
