Bremer Canyon Killer Whale Project
ONLY 30 HOURS TO PLEGDGE VIA POZIBLE!! ONCE IT HAS EXPIRED .. GO TO WWW.RIGGSAUSTRALIA FOR FURTHER INFO.
Our Pozible campaign has been a resounding success with our target being reached four times over so thank you to all our supporters!!
We now have the ability to visit the Bremer Canyon "Hotspot" throughout the month of February.
There arent any positions left on our vessel although there is still an opportunity to get out to where the action is via two hour observational flights to the "hotspot" some 60 kilometres off the coast of southern West Australia.
You can also follow the progress of our daily expeditions to the site by pledging as little as $10.00.
This will give you exclusive access to our password protected, live feeding webpage at www.riggsaustralia.com.
The adventure begins on February 9.
SO WHATS THIS ALL ABOUT? .....
On the 3rd November 2013 the natural history documentary "Search for the Oceans Super Predator" aired on ABC television to a viewing audience of over 1.4 million.
The film highlighted for the first time a unique marine biodiversity hotspot located just over the continental shelf edge of southern Western Australia in an area known as the Bremer Canyon.
We conceived, presented and co-produced the documentary.

Enormous numbers of killer whales, whaler sharks, giant squid, sperm whales and masses of sea birds seasonally aggregate at the Bremer Canyon yet no one understands why.
Reliably encountering an extraordinary aggregation of marine species focused on a small geographical region anywhere in the world is rare.
To have it occurring on Western Australia's backdoor is unprecedented.
We are committed to understanding what causes the ecosystem of the Bremer Canyon to function, thereby ensuring its existence into the future.
.

The task of unraveling the mystery of the canyon is complicated yet already our research has led us to suspect there is something leaking from the seafloor that effectively kick starts this amazing system into life.

In February 2014 we are recommencing daily expeditions to the Bremer Canyon to continue our observations.
We have been studying these offshore waters since 2005.
Your contribution will assist our push to understand and ultimately protect this wonderful aquatic ecosystem.

How The Funds Will Be Used
Any additional pledges we receive are being channeled directly into securing additional scientific hardware to bolster the quality of information we are able to collect in our study area.
Fixed wing aircraft carrying professional marine mammal observers, deep water acoustic "listening" stations and the acquisition of high bandwidth irridium satellite airtime to transmit near real time scientific data to our website are several of the initiatives we are currently pursing.
The Challenges
By pledging $10 you will be added to our exclusive mailing list and receive regular updates during the expedition. This will include images captured of the action as the expedition progresses. Going on the experience of our last series of missions to the site, this blog will make for an exciting read. Killer whales, giant squid and sharks equals awesome!!
You will be added to our exclusive mailing list and will also be sent 10 digital wildlife images captured during our 2014 expedition. Unlike images uploaded to our exclusive mailing list, these magnificent photographs will be sent to you in a resolution that will allow you to print, frame and display them as feature items in your house or office. There is no doubt they will provide a talking point to everyone who views them!
In addition to the above rewards, you will also receive a 10 minute High Definition video cut derived from footage captured during the 2014 expedition.
Aerial flights on our SPOTTER PLANE !! We have decided to underwrite a spotter plane to help us find the offshore activity. Its able to carry 4 passengers on a two hour reconnaissance flight with up to two flights per day. It will initially be onsite between the 9th and 15th of February. Please dont pledge outside of this timeframe without contacting us first as the plane may not be there!!! Killer whales bowling over giant squid from the air .... now thats a sight to see !!!!
In addition to the above rewards, you will also be invited aboard our research vessel for a day, accompanying us to the site to experience this remarkable ecosystem for yourself! Please remember positions are limited and you may need to stay in Bremer Bay longer than expected as inclement weather occasionally prevents us from venturing out to the canyon.
This option is for the true believer! You will receive all of the above plus we will recognize you personally as having been instrumental in making our 2014 expedition happen. Selecting this option will allow us to acquire additional scientific equipment which will ultimately provide us with far greater insights into the mechanisms driving the seasonal aggregation of marine life at the Bremer Canyon.
