Sam King - Studio Almost Built!
(Named after the bike-riding fish on the wall of Dickson pool, bless his cotton socks)
It's a project that has been on the boil for a little while now. It's located in Watson, at the Canberra Technology Park, in an old classroom. The fit-out consists of three rooms; a live room 27m2, vocal booth 4.5m2 and control room 12m2. The live room and booth are both built on a floating floor to decouple them from the rest of the building (Woo! Soundproof!).
It's been a pretty hectic project and I've learnt heaps from it.
I'm so close to finishing but unfortunately (as with most building projects) the budget blew-out a bit and I've only been able to make enough money to cover the rent for the last little while. I've tried getting a bank loan but they don't take too kindly to the self-employed ; )
This is where I was hoping you could help me out.
I've finished building two out of the three rooms (except for the acoustic treatment), justing leaving the control room. I have some of the materials already, but there are still a few of the more expensive things to procure.
I've already recorded a few projects in the space, but it involved turning it from a construction site into a half-finished studio and back again (not really a long term solution).
Here are the results from a couple of the projects that were already recorded in the space:
Not only was it recorded in the space, this video was even mainly shot in the live room.
So anyway, I think this studio will produce some really great Canberra recordings over the next few years and I'd love it if you could help me get it up and running.
Thanks : )
Sam

The Challenges
So far, the trickiest thing has been finding the time to build while still doing enough work to be able to live/eat. That's why this campaign would make all the difference, as it would considerably reduce that financial strain.
Thanks again for your help :)
